Zolder given GT date over Navarra

Zolder has replaced Navarra on the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series calendar.

The former home of the Belgian Grand Prix, which has been on the schedule of the forerunners of the renamed series in all but one season since 2007, has been chosen over the Spanish venue to host the penultimate round of the championship next October.

Series boss Stephane Ratel said: "We had to make a choice and finally went for Zolder -- having more offers than slots is a nice problem to have for a promoter. Zolder has been extremely faithful to us and it is very central for most of our teams."

Ratel explained that he was hoping for a larger attendance at Zolder's traditional October fixture in comparison to the crowds that turned up in April for its FIA GT Series round this year and FIA GT1 World Championship races in 2011-12.

The plan is to return to Navarra, which has hosted FIA GT and GT1 World events for the past four seasons, in 2015 should the sprint series expand, according to Ratel.
