Paul Walker, star of the Fast and Furious series of movies, and Pirelli World Challenge driver Roger Rodas died on Saturday after a car accident in Santa Clarita, California.

A Porsche Carrera GT in which Rodas was driving and Walker was passenger left the road, hit a pole and caught fire. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The following statement from Walker’s management team appeared on his Facebook page:

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – #TeamPW”

On the Pirelli World Challenge website, a statement read:

“As reported via various news outlets, Roger Rodas died yesterday in a single vehicle crash. Rodas, co-founder and CEO of Valencia-based Always Evolving auto performance shop, competed in the GTS class of Pirelli World Challenge this past 2013 season?

“Rodas, 38 of Valencia, CA, competed in 10 Pirelli World Challenge GTS races in 2013. Rodas was actively involved in philanthropy and proudly supported Reach Out Worldwide and The Asomugha Foundation through his racing endeavors.

“Series officials express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Rodas and Walker. Information regarding a memorial service is not yet available.”
