Petit Le Mans entry list revealed

One of sports car racing’s most anticipated entry lists of the year was revealed on Wednesday as the field for the 16th running of the Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda was unveiled.

Few surprised were on offer, with the expected return of Rebellion Racing in the P1 category serving as the biggest addition to the 10-hour/1000-mile event. At present, four P1 cars, four P2 cars, eight PC entries, 11 GT cars and 10 cars in the GTC category have been filed, combining for a relatively small field of 37 cars for the ALMS season and series finale.

Late additions to the Petit Le Mans entry list are common, but with the lack of one-off factory participation from World Endurance Championship P1 competitors like Audi and Toyota, chatter regarding European teams making the trek to Braselton, Georgia, for the event has been limited.

Guest drives from stars in the IndyCar Series a norm throughout the race’s history will be impossible for the second consecutive year as both championships conclude on the same night, Oct. 19, with the open-wheelers competing on the Fontana oval in California.

Testing begins on Sunday for ALMS cars and continues through Monday. Testing resumes Wednesday, with official practice starting on Thursday. Additional practice takes place on Friday prior to qualifying, and the race, which will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 and 2, begins Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. ET.
