Bird loses GP2 front row to penalty-326

Sam Bird has lost his front row qualifying position for Saturday's GP2 race at the Hungaroring after picking up a three-place grid penalty.

The Russian Time driver was penalized for impeding Caterham's Sergio Canamasas as the pair drove through the first corner at the Hungaroring during qualifying.

Bird's penalty promotes Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer to second, Carlin's Felipe Nasr to third and Marcus Ericsson of DAMS to fourth. Bird will line up in fifth.

The stewards also investigated Canamasas over the incident, but decide no penalty was necessary. The Spaniard was 24th fastest.
