Monza to mark final Peugeot race for Jakobsen
This weekend's FIA WEC season finale at Monza will be Malthe Jakobsen's final race for Team Peugeot, the French manufacturer has confirmed.
The 23-year-old Dane will depart the factory Hypercar outfit after a four-year association which began at the end of 2022, when he took part in the Rookie Test in Bahrain before the team named him a ‘Junior Driver’ in 2023. He then became a full-time driver in 2025 after spending the 2024 season as a reserve driver, completing two full seasons in the 9X8 driver stable.
The standout moment of his time with Peugeot came back in May when he claimed the 9X8’s first-ever WEC pole position at Spa. He also finished on the podium at Lone Star Le Mans with the No. 94 crew in 2025.
“Racing in Monza this weekend with Team Peugeot TotalEnergies for the final time is something special after four unbelievable years with this fantastic team,” Jakobsen said.
“They have made me feel a part of the family from day one at the Rookie test in Bahrain and have been a huge part of my growth as a person and racing driver, from junior to an official WEC driver! This has been an unforgettable chapter of my career, especially competing at Le Mans in the top category for the first time is a phenomenal memory! A big thank you to Peugeot Sport, let’s finish this weekend’s race on a high!”
Olivier Jansonnie, Stellantis’ motorsport director, added: “We are very proud of everything Malthe has achieved with us and of the progress he has made along the way. It has been a privilege to see him grow as a driver and as a member of the team.
“We sincerely thank him for his commitment, his hard work and everything he has brought to us, and we wish him every success for what comes next. With Monza marking both the final race of the FIA WEC season and Malthe’s last event with the team, we are determined to finish this chapter together on a positive note.”
Jakobsen’s exit follows Peugeot's recent announcement that Alex Quinn and Robert Shwartzman will join its full-time driver line-up for 2027. Elsewhere within the team, Stoffel Vandoorne’s final race was the 6 Hours of Fuji, and Theo Pourchaire is expected to focus on his new Formula E drive with Opel next year.
As for Jakobsen, he already has a 2027 WEC Hypercar drive confirmed with another manufacturer. It will be formally announced in the coming days.
