Keselowski denied in bid to buy RFK Racing
Brad Keselowski was denied by the other owners of RFK Racing when he recently made a bid to buy the organization.
Keselowski told the Sports Business Journal on Friday that the unsolicited bid was denied “in the last week.” He described it as a pretty solid and significant offer.
The former NASCAR Cup Series champion will split ways with RFK Racing at season's end. Keselowski’s future is unknown, but the two sides surprisingly announced last month that they would part ways at what is the end of his five-year contract. Although Keselowski has an ownership stake in the company, the amount is unknown, and he is not the controlling owner.
RKF Racing said it and Keselowski “intend to collaboratively and mutually work through the appropriate next steps regarding his existing ownership interest in the organization.”
Jack Roush and his Roush Enterprises operation and Fenway Sports Group are the other owners. They will continue to operate the organization after Keselowski’s departure.
Chip Bowers, the team president, denied reports of a bad relationship between Keselowski and others. Bowers offered that the only reason the two could not move forward together is that Keselowski wants to continue driving into the near future. However, the organization had hoped he would begin shifting his focus to competition oversight.
Keselowski has remained tight-lipped on certain aspects when asked about RFK Racing; he did not deny that he wants to keep racing, but said it is not mandatory to get his next deal done.
On ownership, Keselowski did not rule that variable out for his next chapter.
“If I can make somebody better, that’s part of the fulfillment I get,” Keselowski said earlier this month at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “I’m really not looking for a one-directional deal; I want to do something that works for everybody. That’s what a good partnership is.”
