Catalan government places Spanish IndyCar race on public calendar

According to a schedule announcement by the local government where the circuit Barcelona-Catalunya is located in Spain, an IndyCar Series event at the track will be confirmed in a presentation on Friday.

As IndyCar officials told RACER on Monday, the event had not been signed, but the contract was considered to be imminent. A race date of July 17-18 has been suggested, and teams are rumored to be receiving between $150,000-$200,000 per entry for their participation in the event.

The announcement read as follows:

"The President of the Government of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, will lead the presentation of the NTT IndyCar Series at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. During the event, a tribute will be held for Catalan driver Alex Palou.

“Alongside President Illa, speakers at the presentation will include the Minister for Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper; Pau Relat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fira de Barcelona and Fira Circuit; and Mark Miles, President and CEO of Penske Entertainment Corp., owner of the IndyCar Series.

“Also attending will be the Minister for Sports, Berni Álvarez, and the Secretary General of the Department of Sports.”
