Genesis retains WEC driver line-up for 2027

Genesis Magma Racing has confirmed it will retain an unchanged six-driver line-up for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship, after confirming last weekend that Dani Juncadella signed a contract extension through 2027.

Genesis Magma Racing team principal Cyril Abiteboul said he feels continuity in the project makes sense at this early stage: “Our drivers have built valuable knowledge of the GMR-001 Hypercar and strong working relationships with our technical team,” he said. “They have also developed a positive dynamic and genuinely enjoy working together. Retaining the same line-up allows us to carry this experience and team spirit into 2027, continue developing the car efficiently and take further steps towards scoring points with both cars at every race.”

Genesis Magma Racing has achieved several important milestones in its inaugural season, including the No. 17 GMR-001 Hypercar scoring the program’s first championship points in only its second race, at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

The same car later finished seventh at Lone Star Le Mans, the brand’s best result to date, and completed the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its first attempt.

The No. 19 GMR-001 Hypercar then fought inside the top five for much of the 6 Hours of Fuji, before the No. 17 car secured Genesis Magma Racing’s first FIA WEC pole position at last weekend’s 6 Hours of Barcelona, only seven races into the team’s debut season.

“Our drivers understand the car, our working methods and what we need to improve, sporting director Gabriele Tarquini said. “They work very well together and have built a strong relationship with the entire team, so we are very pleased to continue with this group next season. Securing our first pole position in Barcelona was an important milestone and demonstrated how far we have come together in our debut season.

“We believe this group has the experience and potential to go even further. With the same drivers, we can build on these strong foundations, unlock further performance from the GMR-001 and fight regularly for points in 2027.”

The exact driver combinations for the team’s two cars in the 2027 season will be confirmed ahead of the first race of the year.
