Mahindra retains Mortara and de Vries for first GEN4 Formula E season

Mahindra Racing will head into Formula E's GEN4 era with familiarity in its ranks after announcing Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries will remain with the team.

The pair have formed the team's driver line-up for the last three seasons and have been a key ingredient in the team's turnaround from strugglers to regular race win contenders. It finished third in the teams’ championship last season, equalling its best result from 2016-17, although it managed one more win than that season.

“I would like to thank Nyck and Edoardo for continuing this adventure with us as we begin its second chapter,” said Mahindra Racing CEO and team principal Frederic Bertrand. “Over the past three seasons, we have built trust, shared reference points and a strong way of working together. That continuity will be important as Formula E enters the GEN4 era.

“GEN4 will bring an even greater challenge, and Season 13 will demand a steep learning curve from the whole team. We have a strong foundation, but there is still a great deal to discover about the new car. Our priority will be to learn quickly, work through the details and improve step by step.”

Mortara secured four pole positions for the team last season – equalling the single season record – and was a title contender for much of the year, eventually finishing fifth with three podium finishes to his name.

“I’m really happy to continue with the team. Our collaboration over the past three seasons has been very positive, with results steadily improving along the way,” said Mortara. “Together, we’ve lifted our performance at every level, and I’m proud of what we’ve built.

“Entering my tenth Formula E season, we know the year ahead will be a real challenge, especially on the technical side, with so much that is new. I’m curious and excited to take on that challenge with the team as we move to the new GEN4 cars.”

de Vries meanwhile finished seventh but won twice, including the first race of the Monaco E-Prix weekend which was the team's first win in five years.

“The past three years with Mahindra Racing have been a very rewarding journey,” said de Vries. “We’ve made a lot of progress together, and finishing third in the teams’ championship last season was a great reward for all the hard work everyone across the team has put in. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved together and the direction we’ve been moving in.

“I’m very happy to continue with Mahindra Racing as we enter the GEN4 era. It represents a completely new challenge for everyone in Formula E, with a lot to learn and discover. I’m excited to take that on with the team and see where this next chapter takes us.”

Mahindra joins Nissan (Oliver Rowland and Zane Maloney), Andretti (Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich), Citroën (Jean-Eric Vergne and Nick Cassidy), Opel (Mitch Evans and Théo Pourchaire), and Envision Racing (Maximilian Günther and Zak O'Sullivan) in fully confirming its driver line-up for the 2026-27 season although Porsche is also expected to retain champion Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller.

One seat remains at Cupra Kiro and Jaguar TCS Racing, which have confirmed Pepe Marti and Antonio Felix da Costa respectively, while Lola, Fortescue Zero Racing, and the new entry supported by Porsche are yet to name any drivers thus far.
