Weather scrubs NASCAR qualifying once again, Logano to start from pole in Kansas

NASCAR Cup Series teams were foiled for the third time in four weeks on Saturday, unable to get any on-track time because of weather.

Kansas Speedway was the latest site, as teams were set to get on track for practice when rain moved in at the start of the session. NASCAR canceled practice shortly thereafter and then qualifying because of the time it would take to dry the racetrack.

All three races impacted have been Chase races.

Joey Logano, who enters the weekend fresh off a victory at Bristol Motor Speedway, will start from the pole via the performance metric.

"Starting up front is always good," said Logano. "We'll see if you have enough pace when you're up there, and you're going to have a lot of fast cars around you. We'll see what we got. I can't say we really know anything yet, but obviously the pit stall is worth some rolling time, so that's good, and starting up front there, it's all about stage points. I said earlier, a fifth place without stage points isn't that good of a day anymore. You have to get stage points, and starting up front is a big piece of getting it in the first stage.

"So, I think we're in a good spot obviously to do that."

As a reminder, the performance metric is a weighted algorithm made up of the previous race result (70%), which would be Bristol, and points standings (30%).

Kyle Larson will share the front row with Logano. They finished top two at Bristol, and Larson leads the points while Logano is third in the standings.

Christopher Bell will start third, Carson Hocevar fourth, and Ty Gibbs fifth. Denny Hamlin starts sixth.

Bubba Wallace will start seventh, William Byron eighth, and Ryan Preece ninth. Josh Berry rounds out the top 10 starters as the highest-placed non-Chase driver.

Austin Cindric will start 11th, followed by Chris Buescher in 12th. The rest of the Chase field will be Daniel Suarez starting 14th, Tyler Reddick in 15th, and Chase Elliott in 18th.

Reddick won at the track in the spring. Elliott is the defending race winner.

Further back in the field will be Chase Briscoe in 23rd and Ryan Blaney in 25th.

The Hollywood Casino 400 has 36 teams entered, all charter organizations.
