Rockingham Speedway loses NASCAR for 2027

Rockingham Speedway will not have a NASCAR national series race weekend in 2027.

Track Enterprises, the promoter of the facility, confirmed the move because of “overall uncertainty.” Darryl Cutter owns the racetrack, and he has been the subject of unfortunate headlines in recent months because of closures of other racing facilities in his portfolio amid financial turmoil.

NASCAR had run an Easter weekend doubleheader at "The Rock" over the last two seasons with the Craftsman Truck and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. It was the first time a NASCAR national series had contested events at the racetrack since 2004.

"The response from the fans over the past two years has been nothing short of incredible," said Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent. "Bringing NASCAR back to Rockingham was a special opportunity, and the support we received from race fans, competitors, sponsors, local officials, and the entire community exceeded every expectation. While we're disappointed that NASCAR won't be racing at Rockingham in 2027, we remain optimistic about the future and look forward to exploring opportunities to bring racing back in the future."

Track Enterprises also thanked the fans who supported the return and made the past two years a success. They also thanked competitors and everyone who attended, supported, or worked the event.

Rockingham Speedway opened in 1965 and was a staple on the NASCAR schedule until 2004. It was a popular destination for race fans and competitors alike.

Losing a race from the Truck Series schedule opens the door to a change for 2027. The series has been rumored to visit Bowman Gray Stadium, which would also fill the NASCAR void left by moving the Clash away from the facility. NASCAR has a five-year agreement with the track to hold a national series event there.

As for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, it was announced earlier this week that it will return to Richmond Raceway next season.
