Estre issued additional penalty for Road America collision

IMSA has handed additional penalties to the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 and driver Kévin Estre following a comprehensive review of his late-race incident with the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R at Road America on Sunday.

The No. 6 Penske Porsche was given a five-minute post-race time penalty for incident responsibility in the incident where Estre collided with Aitken at Turn 1. The penalty drops Estre and Laurens Vanthoor from eighth to tenth place in GTP (17th to 20th place overall), behind the No. 31 Cadillac and the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06.

Estre has been placed on probation for two races for “unjustifiable risk” per Articles 30.2.4 and 57.3.3 of the IMSA Sporting Regulations. The probationary period will apply through the driver’s next two races, the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road America; this places the Frenchman on probation for the remainder of his 2026 IMSA season.

With the provisional race results now posted, the GTP championship picture changes slightly with two races left: Jack Aitken’s lead over Laurin Heinrich in the drivers’ championship is now 118 points, 10 more than it was after the checkered flag fell in Sunday’s six-hour race.

Likewise, the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen team also gains an additional ten points in the GTP Teams’ Championship over the No. 93 Meyer Shank Racing Acura (-185 points); the GTP Manufacturers’ championship standings are unaffected.
