FE adjusts 2027 Monaco date to avoid WEC date clash

Formula E has adjusted the date of its Monaco rounds next year to avoid a clash with the 6 Hours of Spa FIA World Endurance Championship race.

The move comes after an e-vote of the FIA World Motor Sport Council, and as well as removing the WEC clash, also “serves to accommodate the country’s events calendar”, according to Formula E. Along with the date change, Formula E and the Automobile Club de Monaco have also reaffirmed their agreement, ensuring the Monaco E-Prix will continue to run until at least 2031.

“There is no stage in motorsport quite like the Circuit de Monaco, and we are thrilled to bring the next era of electric racing to the Principality,” said Alberto Longo, Formula E co-founder and chief championship officer.

Five drivers on the current Formula E grid, plus Theo Pourchaire who will debut for Opel next season, race in WEC this season, meaning the change will be a welcome one for a sizeable chunk of the grid. But despite the change, there remains one clash with WEC, the double-header in Shanghai and WEC’s 6 Hours of São Paulo.

“Monaco is one of the races every driver wants to be part of, and after winning there this year it will always hold special memories for me,” said Mahindra Formula E and Toyota WEC driver Nyck de Vries, who won the first of the two Formula E races in Monaco this season.

“Receiving the H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco Trophy from Prince Albert and Princess Charlene was a highlight of my season, and it’s a venue that not only has always been very kind to me throughout my racing career, but I am also proud to call home. 

“Monaco is such an important part of Formula E, so the extension with the ACM is fantastic news for the championship and its fans.”
