Hocevar leads Spire front row sweep for Brickyard 400

Spire Motorsports owns the front row for the Brickyard 400.

Carson Hocevar and Daniel Suarez will lead the field to the green flag, and all three Spire Motorsports drivers qualified inside the top six. It is the third career pole for Hocevar in the NASCAR Cup Series, and his first at Indianapolis in three starts. Hocevar’s pole-winning lap was 186.598 mph (48.232s).

“I don’t know if anybody has ever passed the leader here with this car,” Hocevar joked of his track position. “So, hopefully, we can just stay up front, manage the race, and enjoy it. But I’m going to soak this in a lot. It’s my favorite racetrack. Michigan, obviously, is the hometown, so that’s probably my favorite crowd, but I just love this racetrack, I love Indy, and this crowd is pretty awesome.”

Suarez qualified second with a lap of 186.382 mph.

A trio of Toyota drivers followed the Spire Motorsports pair. Tyler Reddick qualified third (186.077 mph), Ty Gibbs was fourth (185.966 mph), and Denny Hamlin took fifth (185.835 mph).

Michael McDowell, the third Spire Motorsports driver, qualified sixth with a lap of 185.762 mph. Corey Heim placed seventh (185.456 mph), Alex Bowman qualified eighth (185.368 mph), and AJ Allmendinger ninth (185.345 mph). Kyle Larson completed the top 10 (185.315 mph).

Indiana native Chase Briscoe qualified 11th while Ryan Blaney, who will compete for the $1 million In-Season Challenge prize, qualified 12th. His rival, Todd Gilliland, qualified 36th.

The defending race winner, Bubba Wallace, qualified 29th.

A field of 39 drivers will take the green flag.

The Brickyard 400 starts at 2pm ET Sunday.
