Malukas cleared to compete after Nashville practice crash
David Malukas has been cleared by IndyCar Medical to return to driving duties in the No. 12 Team Penske Chevy. The approval comes after the Illinois native injured his knee in a rearward crash Saturday morning at Nashville Speedway where his knee hit the quick-release collar on the No. 12’s steering wheel, which came off in the incident.
Malukas was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and returned to the track at approximately 4:15 p.m. CT, where he was asked to confirm his ability to climb in and out of the car before being cleared. After getting the go ahead, Malukas took to the track for the final practice session at 5 p.m. CT.
“Everything is good,” Malukas said. “I want to take a moment to say thank you to everybody at the AMR Safety Team. Nothing’s broken.”
