Ricky Taylor, Hawksworth lead second IMSA practice at CTMP
Two practice sessions are in the books at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and the No. 52 Bryan Herta Autosport with PR1/Mathiasen ORECA 07-Gibson has led both after pacing Practice 2 this morning.
Just as he did yesterday afternoon, regular Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing driver Ricky Taylor set the fastest time in LMP2, improving on yesterday’s benchmark with a lap of 1m07.812s less than halfway into today’s 90-minute practice. It positions Taylor and Misha Goikhberg well heading into Sunday afternoon’s two-hour, 40-minute race.
Also in the sub-78 second bracket was the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition ORECA in second place, Tom Dillmann set a 1m07.953s. Mathias Beche leapt up to third place towards the end in the No. 11 TDS Racing ORECA (1m08.405s), past championship leader Alex Quinn in the No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR car in fourth.
Dane Cameron in the No. 99 AO Racing car rounded out the top five in LMP2.
The No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3 finished on top in GTD Pro; Jack Hawksworth’s best lap of 1m15.090s, set in the closing minutes, put him narrowly ahead of a very close top four – by only 0.013s.
Right behind the Lexus was the No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 with Ben Barker in second place, with the two Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports cars in third and fourth to match their respective car numbers: Alexander Sims in the No. 3 Corvette, followed by Nicky Catsburg in the No. 4.
Sandy Mitchell put local favorite Pfaff Motorsports’ No. 9 Lamborghini Temerario GT3 up into fifth place in class.
Lorenzo Patrese and Conquest Racing bounced back after their small accident at Moss Corner yesterday to lead GTD; Patrese set a 1m15.514s in the No. 34 Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo.
He was a tenth ahead of the best time set by Benjamin Pedersen in the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus. Rounding out the top three was Danny Formal in the No. 45 Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2.
Further down, the No. 27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin (Eduardo Barrichello) was fourth, the No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette (Mason Filippi) was fifth, and the rebuilt No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R (Callum Ilott) was sixth.
Qualifying starts this afternoon at 4:00pm ET and airs live on Peacock.
