8-hour race at COTA, return to the Glen feature in 7-race SRO America slate for 2027

SRO America has revealed its provisional 2027 calendar, featuring seven race weekends located across North America, including the return of a legendary venue and a marquee event change. The three-hour regular season race format, which was introduced this season, will continue for the upcoming year as well, with the exception of one eight-hour spectacle.

As in previous years, the season will begin on the West Coast at Sonoma Raceway before heading to Circuit of The Americas for the inaugural Texas 8 Hour. The event replaces the Indianapolis 8 Hour and begins a new chapter for GT World Challenge America and Intercontinental GT World Challenge competition.

“Nothing can top Indianapolis in terms of history, and we’ve had a wonderful six years with them,” said Stéphane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO. “COTA is comfortably GT World Challenge America’s biggest event but also a modern-classic venue loved by drivers and teams, so it makes perfect sense for the 8 Hour to find a new home there. The recent growth of America’s GT3 grid makes this a very exciting addition to the Intercontinental schedule."

“Having competed in both the Intercontinental GT Challenge and GT World Challenge, I know firsthand the prestige and global significance of SRO competition,” added Andy Soucek, Vice President, Motorsports, Circuit of The Americas. “The IGTC brings together some of the most respected endurance races in the world and showcases the very best of GT3 racing. To see Circuit of The Americas join this championship is incredibly exciting. The Texas 8 Hour will establish COTA as the home of the only U.S. round of the IGTC and provide a world-class platform for teams, manufacturers and fans from around the globe.”

Following COTA, the championship will make a return to Watkins Glen International for the first time since 2022. Road Atlanta also returns to the calendar after the series came back to the Georgia track this year for the first time since 2011, before the series takes its traditional summer break. Competition resumes at Road America with the fan-favorite full field parade through Elkhart Lake, followed by Barber Motorsports Park as the penultimate event on the schedule.

The season finale will again take place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October, bringing the championship battles to a close at one of the world's most renowned and historic venues.
