Ahlin-Kottulinsky set for RallyX Americas

Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky is the latest driver to be announced for RallyX Americas' premier Hypercar class, where she will race for JC Raceteknik.

The Swede has a hugely varied resume with stints in touring car and GT racing as well as her off-road exploits, which are headlined with the 2023 Extreme E championship win, and the record for the most podiums in that series.

In RallyX Americas she’ll be teammate to two-time Nitrocross champion Robin Larsson, with Kevin and Oliver Eriksson, Timmy Hansen, and Jimmy Henserson also already confirmed for the category.

“I’m so excited to join RallyX Americas and to race an FC1,” she said. “When I raced in the Next category of Nitro Rallycross in 2022 for sure the goal was to race an FC1 at some point, and now we are here.

“It’s going to be a big challenge, I’ll be jumping into the car for the first time in free practice with a lot less experience than many of the other drivers, but it’s exciting to race in the highest category for the first time. This is an amazing opportunity to race this car, on these tracks.

“I will take it step by step to get into the car and the type of racing, but it’s very exciting to join a championship winning team like JC, with Robin as my teammate, to go racing in America.”

Ahlin-Kottulinsky’s RallyX Americas debut marks her first time competing in rallycross' top level in the U.S. and first time racing the 1000 horsepower FC1, having previously competed in the Side-by-Side class in Nitrocross. She raced in RallyX Sweden in the RX Lites category in 2014 and raced the Lites car's successor, the electric RX2e in European and World Rallycross in 2023.

In racing for JC in the U.S., it reunites Ahlin-Kottulinsky with the team that gave her her rallycross debut 12 years ago.

“It’s special to me that we gave Mikaela her first drive in rallycross, in Supercar Lites in Europe,” said JC Raceteknik team principal Joel Christoffersson. “She has been away and achieved so much, so it will be great to work with her again this weekend, and give her the opportunity to race in the top category.

“She doesn’t know the car at all, but what she does have is a lot of experience of electric race cars, so that can only help her get up to speed and we are excited to get going with the first races on Friday in Crandon.”

Elsewhere, BAK40 Motorsports have announced a continuation of its FC2 program last seen in Nitrocross, with owner-driver Eric Gordon and Simon Olofsson racing for the team in the Supercar category.

“Crandon has been a huge part of my racing story, so coming back here to compete means a lot to me on a personal level,” Gordon said ahead of this weekend’s first round at Crandon. “This track is one of the most iconic venues in motorsports, and to be part of the inaugural RallyX Americas event makes the opportunity even more special.

“Honestly, it feels like my career has come full circle. Some of the biggest moments and greatest successes of my career have happened at Crandon, and now I get the chance to return in the FC2 Supercar and write the next chapter. That’s something I don’t take for granted.”

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
