DXDT Racing suffers hauler fire en route to Laguna Seca
Frontrunning IMSA WeatherTech Series GTD team DXDT Racing is assessing the damage after its hauler caught fire in California while traveling to this weekend's race at Laguna Seca.
Robert Wickens started the team's No.36 Corvette Z06 GT3.R from pole position at Long Beach two weeks ago and led the race through to its sole pitstop, when he handed the wheel and a 7.0s lead to co-driver Mason Filippi. The duo ultimately finished sixth in their class after sustaining damage following contact from another car, but were scheduled to share the DXDT entry again this weekend.
"En route to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for this weekend's StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship, a mechanical incident resulted in a fully involved fire affecting the DXDT Racing transporter on I-5 north of Bakersfield," read a statement issued by the team.
"No injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved. The status of the No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R is currently unknown.
"DXDT Racing is grateful to first responders for their swift response. There is no additional information available at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available."
