Jaguar TCS Racing reveals new look for Formula E GEN4

Jaguar TCS Racing has revealed the testing livery for its GEN4 Formula E car which aside from being cosmetic, offers a look at the significant performance leap the new cars will take.

The livery features data-derived speed traces from Monaco for Jaguar's previous Formula E cars from GEN1, GEN2, the current GEN3 and ones for the upcoming GEN4 using the team’s driver-in-the-loop simulator. That data predicts that the brand’s "GEN4 proto_TYPE," in its high-downforce 600kW power specification, will exit the tunnel and hit a top speed of 277kph (172mph) before braking for the Nouvelle chicane, making it more than 30kph (19mph) faster than the team’s current I-TYPE 7 GEN3 Evo car and almost 80kmph (50mph) more than its GEN1 car.

Jaguar's simulator data also predicts that its GEN4 car will begin a lap around Monaco at 254kph (158mph), 32kph (20mph) quicker than its GEN3 Evo counterpart (222kph/138mph) and 75kph (47mph) faster than Jaguar’s GEN1 car (179kph/111pmh).

The livery is the first of its kind, offering a visual depiction of the advancements of Formula E performance over its four generations of regulations.

“Jaguar TCS Racing’s key objective is that we race to innovate, and we have proved that throughout our time competing in Formula E, the pinnacle of electric motorsport,” said Jack Lambert, head of technical integration at Jaguar TCS Racing. “The GEN4 era represents a huge opportunity for Jaguar.

“As a manufacturer, we’re always learning through the development of our own competition powertrain – and the expanded manufacturer perimeter for GEN4 will enable us to remain at the forefront of innovating EV technology on-track for the next generation of all-electric Jaguar road cars.”

While the Monaco performance depicted on the livery is simulated, Jaguar has been testing its car in the real world since November last year. Next week, it will make its public debut at the "Formula E GEN4 Unleashed" event at Circuit de Paul Ricard alongside the other teams and manufacturers that will be competing next season.

“We’re excited to unveil the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE as we continue our preparations for this exciting new era of Formula E,” said Ian James, Jaguar TCS Racing team principal Ian James. “Our unique testing livery not only reflects Jaguar TCS Racing’s time competing in Formula E, but the huge technological and performance evolution through ten years of racing.

“Formula E is the perfect platform to enable Jaguar to be at the forefront of EV technology innovation, and GEN4 represents another step-change for the championship. The raw speed of these all-electric cars is incredible, and we cannot wait to showcase the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE on track.”

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
