Rasmussen’s Phoenix razzle dazzle inspires awe, but comes up short

Christian Rasmussen has one of the more mischievous grins. It’s a perfect match for his driving style, which has a spirited edge that often reveals the devilish undercurrent that runs within the Dane.

When he’s piloting ECR’s No. 21 Chevy, his take-no-prisoners approach makes indelible memories, and as Saturday’s Phoenix Raceway event proved, he is the one to watch when everything goes his way. Rasmussen led the race five different times for 69 unforgettable laps, but it was his pair of hits to the Turn 2 wall – the first in a clash with Andretti Global’s Will Power – that removed any chance of converting those leads into the second victory of his career.

What a show he put on for everyone, even if that mischievous approach ended up costing him a win and left the 2023 Indy NXT champion down in a disappointing 14th at the checkered flag.

"We were the class of the field today,” Razz said. “The No. 21 Chevrolet was the best car out there. I was so happy. But I was run into the wall and the car was damaged. It looked like the lower wishbone on the front, the upper and lower wishbones on the rear and the toe link. The car was impossible to drive after that. I did what I could to salvage the day and not crash the car, but it’s just so frustrating. We should have won this race today, and we didn’t."
