IMSA's Laguna Seca round designated 'throwback weekend'
IMSA's Monterey SportsCar Championship weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in May will adopt a “throwback” theme to honor the history of the series and the sport.
Teams in the IMSA paddock will be encouraged – though by no means required – to celebrate the legends of endurance racing through retro liveries and number panels in a tribute to the icons, milestones, and moments that have shaped the legacy of the sport.
“By embracing IMSA’s history, we’re creating an experience that connects past and present, welcoming longtime fans who remember the golden eras and introducing a new generation to the sights, sounds, and spirit that define this championship,’ said Mel Harder, President and General Manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
“It’s about preserving tradition, celebrating excellence, and reinforcing why Laguna Seca continues to hold such a special place in the heart of motorsport.”
The celebration of days gone by begins with an official “Throwback Street Party” in downtown Monterey, California on Wednesday, April 29th. There, fans will have the chance to see the cars up close, meet the teams and drivers, and get a sneak preview of the weekend’s retro atmosphere along the scenic shores of Monterey Peninsula.
During the weekend, additional racing-themed activations and fan events will take place around the Monterey Peninsula, offering curated experiences designed to engage both the long-time and new fans alike.
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was recently awarded IMSA’s “Golden Ticket” Award, which recognizes excellence among North America’s top racing venues and promoter partners. The circuit will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027.
The Monterey SportsCar Championship takes place from May 1st–3rd, as the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
