Clash postponed again, until midweek
The Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium has been postponed by a few more days, with NASCAR now aiming for Wednesday, Feb. 4.
On-track activity will include practice and qualifying held at 1:30pm ET and will be carried on the Fox Sports App. The Last Chance Qualifier race will be at 4:30pm ET and air on FOX, and the Clash will be held at 6pm ET, also on FOX.
"This event is for the fans, and the fans at 'The Madhouse' are some of the most passionate fans in all of sports,” said Justin Swilling, NASCAR's Project Lead for the Cook Out Clash. “Moving the Cook Out Clash to Wednesday, Feb. 4, gives us the best opportunity to hold this event with fans at Bowman Gray Stadium while allowing the City of Winston-Salem to dedicate all of their resources to respond to the needs created by this historic weather event."
The original schedule called for a two-day weekend Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. However, winter storm Gianna has forced multiple postponements due to snow.
Winston-Salem, N.C., the home of Bowman Gray Stadium, received 11 inches of snowfall. It was the same in Charlotte, where most of the NASCAR teams are based.
Sunday morning, the official social media page of the North Carolina Department of Transportation posted, “Stay home this morning unless it’s an emergency or you are essential personnel. That’s it. That’s the message.”
There have been widespread closings of businesses and schools across the state. Duke Energy has alerted customers to cut back on nonessential energy usage to help the power grid going into Monday as freezing temperatures are expected.
