Eduardo Barrichello to make IMSA debut at Indianapolis
Van der Steur Racing has announced that Eduardo “Dudu” Barrichello will make his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut with the team, competing in Sunday’s TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Barrichello, 23, is standing in for VDSR regular Rory van der Steur, who is recovering from a recent mountain biking accident. He will share the car with Valentin Hasse-Clot and Anthony McIntosh.
On his social media accounts, Barrichello posted a video addressing the injured van der Steur, and thanking VDSR for giving him his first opportunity to race in IMSA. “I promise to keep your seat very warm and tidy, and I need to thank the team for their trust as well, for Val and Tony who will be sharing the car once again. I’m super excited for this week,” he said.
The son of 19-year Formula One veteran Rubens Barrichello, Eduardo finished third in last year’s Brazilian Stock Car Pro series before switching to the FIA World Endurance Championship, driving for Aston Martin LMGT3 team Racing Spirit of Léman.
In his home race, the 6 Hours of São Paulo, Barrichello scored his first LMGT3 podium finish, finishing third in class alongside McIntosh (who was making his WEC debut) and Hasse-Clot. This same trio will share the No. 19 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the GTD class this weekend at Indy.
They will also drive together in the upcoming WEC 6 Hours of Fuji next weekend, as McIntosh rmakes his second WEC start with Racing Spirit of Léman.
