14-year-old McKee wins record TA2 pole at Watkins Glen

14-year-old Tristan McKee earned his first-career pole in qualifying for today's Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race at Watkins Glen International. Driving the No. 28 Spire/Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro, McKee set a new class track record of 1m49.077s. McKee currently leads the series point standings, in addition to the Rookie of the Year and Young Gun Award rankings.

“This weekend has gone really well,” said McKee. “We've been fastest in almost every session. Huge thanks to my guys; they brought a really, really good car. This track is a lot of fun; it's more towards my style of driving. I want to thank Scott Speed and Josh Wise for having me prepped really well. We unloaded really fast off the trailer. Thanks to everybody: Spire, Gainbridge, TeamSLR. They just made it all work.”

Barry Boes (No. 27 Accio Data/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro) was the fastest of the Pro/Am Challenge contenders, qualifying an impressive fourth overall with a time of 1:49.827.

The race will be contested today at 1:05pm ET. It will be streamed live on Trans Am’s YouTube channel, @TheTransAmSeries, and broadcast live on SPEED SPORT 1, with coverage beginning at 12:30pm ET. An encore presentation will air on SPEED SPORT 1 tomorrow at 9:00am ET.
