Lloyd confirmed for Formula E rookie test
Ella Lloyd has become the first driver to be confirmed for this year's Formula E rookie test that will follow the Berlin E-Prix.
The Welsh driver will take part in the one-day test for NEOM McLaren, having joined the McLaren driver development program last October off the back of a British Formula 4 campaign where she finished on the podium four times, and stints in Ginetta Juniors, the Formula Winter Series, and Formula Trophy UAE.
This year the 19-year-old has been racing in F1 Academy, where she currently sits sixth in the standings, with points finishes in four from five starts and a win in the first race at Jeddah.
“I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the GEN3 Evo car again with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team,” said LLoyd. “I learnt so much at the Women’s Test in Madrid and I’m excited to have another opportunity to get out on track and put all the preparation I’ve been doing in the simulator into practice.”
Lloyd took part in the half-day all-female test on the final day of pre-season testing, setting the seventh-fastest time of the 18 participants.
“Ella is a very exciting young talent, and I’m thrilled that she will be back in the GEN3 Evo at the Berlin Rookie Test,” said NEOM McLaren team principal Ian James. “Having worked alongside her over the course of this season, Ella’s professionalism and eagerness to learn left an impression on the whole team. I’m sure that she will continue to build on her knowledge and experience when we head out to Berlin.”
All teams will be taking part in the Berlin rookie test on Monday July 14, each fielding two cars exclusively for drivers without Formula E race experience.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
