IndyCar’s Power set to make acting debut, completing first film
Will Power is best known as a championship- and Indianapolis 500-winning race driver, but he’s adding to his list of professions with a move into acting and filmmaking.
Working in partnership with his brother, comedian Damien Power, the Team Penske IndyCar veteran has shot a short film that’s currently being edited and completed where he plays himself as the central character in a drama that, among other themes, revolves around coping with the death of a fellow driver.
Once it’s completed, the Powers intend to enter the movie in a number of film festivals.
“My brother wrote it,” Power told RACER. “He wants to write a full movie, so you do these short films and then get picked up to do a full movie.”
Power did not take acting classes, and found playing the role of "Will Power" to be a greater challenge than expected.
“It was very hard to act,” he continued. “It was draining. Man, doing those scenes put you in an emotional state. I got to the end of each day and was totally drained. You realize how lucky are to be a race car driver and not an actor, because at the end of a race day or a practice day, you feel awesome – it's an extremely fun thing to do. Acting is not fun. Comedy probably is. Comedy would be fun, but that serious stuff is hard.”
