FOX to have 22 in-car cameras for Indy 500

FOX Sports’ first broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 should set a record for the use of in-car cameras.

RACER has learned FOX Sports’ current plan for the 109th edition of "The Greatest Spectacle In Racing" is to deploy onboard views from 22 of the 33 entries, with 16 set to carry cameras from traditional vantage points and six of its new-to-IndyCar Driver’s Eye cameras placed within the right side of the foam in drivers’ helmets.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden was the first to bring fans inside the cockpit of his car, the No. 2 Chevy that won the last two Indy 500s, during practice on Wednesday. The final roster of Driver’s Eye users has not been decided, but it would not be unexpected to see the micro HD cameras deployed with Newgarden, the series’ most popular driver in Pato O’Ward, and other high-profile drivers who make the show.
