Newgarden tops Indy GP warmup
Josef Newgarden moved Team Penske to top of the pile in the warmup session for this afternoon's Sensio Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Newgarden's No. 2 Chevy led the way with a 1m:10.5606s lap to best Arrow McLaren's Christian Lundgaard in his No. 7 Chevy by 0.0871s, in a more promising session for the Bowtie boys after Honda runners took the first three places in yesterday's qualifying session. Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon was the fastest Honda in third, while teammate Alex Palou, who starts from the pole this afternoon, was fourth.
There were problems for AJ Foyt Racing's Santino Ferrucci, who triggered a red flag with smoke billowing from his No. 14 Chevy, while Colton Herta was also hindered by a suspected shifter issue in his Andretti Global No. 26 Honda.
