McLaren ‘key architect’ Prodromou gets contract extension
McLaren has announced a multi-year contract extension for one of its senior technical leaders, with Peter Prodromou described as a “key architect” of its recent championship success.
Prodromou holds the title of technical director, aerodynamics, and was a high-profile signing when he rejoined McLaren from Red Bull in 2014. At the time he was chief engineer but took on his current position in early 2023 and since that time has been part of an impressive rate of improvement that has taken McLaren from the midfield to the constructors’ title last year.
“It is my great privilege to confirm the extension of Peter's contract on a multi-year deal,” team principal Andrea Stella said. “The cultural, organizational and technical leadership Peter has brought has been invaluable, and he has been a key architect of the team's performance turnaround, on and off the track, securing the team's ninth FIA Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in 2024.
“The journey we have been on together as a team, we could not have done without Peter, and we look forward to continuing our quest of fighting for further world championships together. Thank you, Peter, for your commitment and dedication to the McLaren F1 Team, we are all proud to call you our team-mate.”
Prodromou’s new contract is the latest in a number of extensions confirmed by McLaren over the past year, including for Stella and race drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and the 56-year-old says the platform is in place to continue to fight for more titles.
“I am delighted to continue my role as technical director, aerodynamics at McLaren F1 Team,” Prodromou said. “It is an honor to be part of such a collaborative team and contributing to this strong upwards trajectory. Following last season’s success, I look forward to contributing further to our shared ambition of securing more world championships.
“I’m grateful to Zak (Brown) and Andrea for their continued confidence in me as a technical director, aerodynamics and also to all my colleagues in the team who have provided the highest class of support to me at a personal and professional level.”
Prodromou’s role sits alongside Neil Houldey as technical director, engineering, and Mark Temple, who is technical director, performance. A technical restructuring last year saw Rob Marshall take on the position of chief designer, following the departure of David Sanchez.
