Pfaff Motorsports switching to Lamborghini for 2025

After a solitary season with McLaren, Pfaff Motorsports is going to another marque for its IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD PRO campaign in 2025, opting to compete with a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 beginning with the Rolex 24 At Daytona next month.

The driver line-up for Daytona will be Lamborghini drivers Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli, Jordan Pepper and Pfaff's endurance driver in 2024, James Hinchcliffe.

Team representatives declined to offer a reason for the switch, citing ongoing discussions with involved parties.

After a long stint with Porsche that included both GTD and GTD PRO championships, Pfaff switched to the McLaren 720 S GT3 Evo (pictured above) after a rough first season with the new 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R. As the Pfaff organization had a relationship with McLaren cars already, it seemed a good fit.

However, relations on the racing side seemed to veer a bit rocky. The team experienced its second winless season in a row, with Marvin Kirchhöfer and Oliver Jarvis managing only two podium finishes, thirds at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and at the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen.

Shortly after the 2024 season ended, the McLaren was listed for sale. While not a sure sign that the team was switching marques, the availability of Kirchhöfer to drive for AWA at Daytona signaled that that was indeed the case.

In typical Pfaff Motorsports fashion, the team began teasing the switch a few days before the release of the Rolex 24 entry list, posting a bull emoji on its social media accounts.

The move leaves the 2025 grid without any McLaren representation at the moment. The other 720S in the 2024 championship, Inception Racing's entry in GTD, was abandoned toward the end of the season in favor of a Ferrari 296 GT3.
