Arrow McLaren retains Ilott for Thermal Club race

Arrow McLaren will retain the services of Callum Ilott for the rest of March. The Briton, who stepped in for the injured David Malukas at the opening IndyCar race at St. Petersburg and finished 13th in the No. 6 Chevy, will return to work in the car for next Monday’s test at Barber Motorsports Park and then head west to The Thermal Club for the Friday-Sunday test and $1 Million Challenge.

Ilott hopes to have a stronger output at the second IndyCar event of the year.

"It wasn't a bad race,” he said of St. Petersburg. “Starting 16th, we chipped away a little bit. I think we struggled a little bit in the first stint, everyone was quite processional, but we had a good car. Once we put the Firestone alternate tires on, we definitely had a bit more pace and it was a shame we couldn't quite unlock it with the way traffic worked out. Then we tried to gamble pitting earlier for the final stint, and it almost paid off but didn't quite get through. There was a lot of fuel save at the end. Arrow McLaren did a great job with the car; it was fast.”
