Ilott to stand in for injured Malukas at St Petersburg

Callum Ilott will make his debut for Arrow McLaren this weekend at the St. Petersburg IndyCar race as the stand-in for David Malukas in the No. 6 Chevy.

Ilott was called up to test for the team in recent weeks after new arrival Malukas injured his wrist in a cycling accident, and made enough of an impression to earn a return visit for the opening round of the new IndyCar season alongside Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi.

Ilott had a breakout season with his former Juncos Hollinger Racing team in 2023, but parted ways with the program and signed to contest the full FIA World Endurance Championship calendar with the Hertz Team Jota Porsche 963 hybrid squad. Ilott’s first race for the team last weekend at the 10-hour opening round in Qatar was a thrilling affair as he pushed the privateer 963 to split the race-winning factory Porsche Penske Motorsport entries and deliver a podium for Jota on his maiden WEC appearance.

He placed fifth at the 2023 edition of the St. Petersburg IndyCar race, and despite only having one day of pre-season running in the hybrid No. 6 Chevy, the 25-year-old Briton should adapt quickly at the 1.8-mile street circuit with his temporary team.

Arrow McLaren hopes to have Malukas back for the non-points event at The Thermal Club later in the month, but if he’s unable to go, Ilott is clear of FIA WEC obligations and could be available.
