Abel signs Mason, expands to three Indy NXT entries
Abel Motorsports has gone from fielding one full-time car in 2023 to preparing three season-long entries for the Indy NXT championship. Along with confirmed entries for Jacob Abel and Yuven Sundaramoorthy, Abel will field Englishman Josh Mason in IndyCar’s top development series and could have a fourth car in the works.
Mason joins the John Brunner-led Abel team with just over a week to go before the start of the Indy NXT season and comes to the outfit with British F3, Euroformula Open, and Formula 2 experience.
“It’s another chapter in my career, now racing in the States for the first time, so it’s going to be a new experience and challenge for me but I can’t wait to get started and do it with ABEL Motorsports,” Mason said. “I am really looking forward to experiencing the American racing culture and to get to experience the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, which looks mega.”
Mason will get his first laps in the Dallara IL15 NXT car at St. Petersburg.
“I expect Josh to be a contender in each of the races in the Indy NXT championship and of course, to be in the championship hunt,” said team owner Bill Abel.
