Williams lands part-time NASCAR Cup program with Kaulig

Josh Williams will run multiple NASCAR Cup Series races in the No. 16 for Kaulig Racing this season.

Williams will make his first start with the team this weekend in L.A. for the Busch Light Clash. Alloy Employer Services will sponsor Williams in L.A. and when he returns to the seat at Atlanta Motor Speedway (Feb. 25). The remainder of Williams’s schedule will be announced at a later date.

Williams has three Cup Series starts on his resume. B.J. McLeod fielded Williams for those starts in 2022.

“Getting another opportunity in the Cup Series is humbling, especially with a team like Kaulig Racing,” Williams said. “I’ve been spending time in the sim with Team Chevy, and that’s been a huge help in getting comfortable and acclimated to the L.A. Coliseum. Short-track racing is my background, and it doesn’t get much shorter than at The Clash. I’m ready for the challenge.”

Williams will compete for Kaulig Racing full-time in the Xfinity Series this season in the No. 11 Chevrolet. Entering his seventh full season, it will be the best opportunity Williams, 30, has had in the series.

“Josh has impressed us at Kaulig Racing with how quickly he’s gotten up to speed in sim testing, so we knew we needed to work together to get him in the No. 16 Cup car in Los Angeles,” Kaulig Racing president Chris Rice said. “Alloy Employer Services’ enthusiasm to get involved with our Cup and Xfinity programs has made it easy to give this the green light and we’re hopeful that there will be a handful of Cup starts with Josh, Alloy Employer Services, and Kaulig Racing this season.”

Kaulig Racing will field multiple drivers in the No. 16 Chevrolet. Williams will attempt to qualify the car in L.A. before AJ Allmendinger tries to do the same for the season-opening Daytona 500.
