Two JGR crew members suspended for wheel infraction at Las Vegas
NASCAR has suspended two crew members from the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 54 team after the right front wheel came off Ty Gibbs’s Toyota last Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Braxton Brannon (jackman) and Jackson Gibbs (front tire changer) have been suspended for the next races at Homestead-Miami Speedway (Oct. 22) and Martinsville Speedway (Oct. 29). There is an automatic two-race suspension for the loss of a wheel on the racetrack during an event.
Gibbs blew a right front tire and hit the wall off Turn 2 on lap 217 of the South Point 400. The wheel then became completely detached from the car as he was limping down the backstretch.
Upon making it back to pit road, Gibbs was penalized for two laps for the wheel coming off. The crew member suspensions are the second part of the penalty.
Gibbs finished 34th in Las Vegas.
