Hampson to leave Arrow McLaren
Arrow McLaren race engineer Craig Hampson will be exiting the team in the coming months.
The four-time Champ Car championship-winning engineer has notified the Gavin Ward-led operation of his intent to leave and both sides are working on a transition plan that will make the process as easy as possible.
The New Jersey native joined the team in 2020 and was moved to Alexander Rossi’s No. 7 Chevy last season where he and the Californian earned a podium in May’s Indianapolis Grand Prix and placed ninth in the championship standings.
Hampson's next moves are unknown. RACER understands Arrow McLaren will evaluate its internal engineering talent and look for external options as it decides how to fill the upcoming vacancy.
Hampson came to prominence at Newman/Haas Racing, where he and Sebastien Bourdais captured four consecutive titles. Stops at Andretti Autosport and Dale Coyne Racing, where he was reunited with Bourdais and earned more wins, were among his IndyCar highlights prior to signing with Arrow McLaren.
Chris Lawrence, who engineered former driver Felix Rosenqvist in 2023, will run both Rossi and newcomer David Malukas in the team’s next test.

In his previous career, he served as a mechanic, engineer, and team manager in a variety of series, including IndyCar, IMSA, and World Challenge.
