DragonSpeed’s current FIA WEC trio of Anthony Davidson, Pastor Maldonado and Roberto Gonzalez are set to return to the championship next season, but with Jota Sport-run ORECA 07 Gibson.
The move of the trio, which took a class win in the last FIA WEC race at Spa (pictured), was announced just before the ‘Super Season’ finale at Le Mans next month, which will serve as their final race with the American team.
This season, Jota has taken the LMP2 championship race down to the wire after a strong season running the two Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECAs.
For former F1 driver Maldonado, the 2019/20 season will be his second. Gonzalez has been competing in the WEC full-time for the last two seasons and has now committed to a third and 2014 FIA WEC champion Davidson joins Jota after his first campaign in LMP2, following on from his successful LMP1 career with Peugeot Sport and Toyota Gazoo Racing.
“We are delighted to welcome Roberto, Pastor and Anthony to Jota for our next campaign which looks set to be the most exciting for us yet in the WEC,” said Sam Hignett, Jota founder. “Recent races have shown all three to have already moulded a potent and race winning combination, so we believe that this can be harnessed to really mount a strong force for the new WEC season.”
The trio of Maldonado, Gonzalez and Davidson will get their first acquaintance with the Jota squad at the official FIA WEC Prologue test at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on July 23-24.
“It feels super nice to have our program already fixed in for the 2019/20 WEC season,” added Maldonado. “I think this will be a great combination between us all after our season together at DragonSpeed which is coming to a close next month at Le Mans.
“The Jota squad are well-known up and down the paddock for being a very professional and successful team so I cannot wait to go racing with them.”
