College basketball continued to tamp down racing ratings last weekend, with both men’s and women’s hoops outperforming all the wheeled action. The top men’s game, Texas Tech vs Michigan, scored a 9.06 rating and averaged 15.8m viewers Saturday on CBS, while the women’s Notre Dame/Baylor match-up Sunday on ESPN scored a 2.13/3.7m.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race from Bristol scored a 1.71 rating and averaged 2.8m viewers on FS1. That was basically unchanged from last year’s 1.7/2.8m when the race was up against the Masters golf tournament.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Bristol on FS1 scored a 0.56/850,000, considerably down from last year when the race aired on the FOX over-the-air network and scored a 0.95/1.5m.
NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series action from Las Vegas late Sunday afternoon on FS1 scored a 0.45/713,000.
The NTT IndyCar Series scored a 0.2 final rating and 296,000 viewers for Sunday afternoon’s race from Barber Motorsports Park on NBCSN, down from the 0.23/349,000 for the first NBCSN IndyCar telecast of the year at Circuit of The Americas two weeks earlier. Last year’s race was postponed to Monday by rain, making comparisons irrelevant.
