Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes W07 Hybrid, winner of 10 GPs three seasons ago, will be run by Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport at The Sonoma Speed Festival, May 31-June 2.
Among the most successful individual chassis in Formula 1 history, W07 chassis no. 04 was driven by Hamilton to 10 wins, nine poles and 14 podiums in 2016. One of those wins was at the USGP at Circuit of the Americas, where Hamilton won from the pole.
Several members of the current team will be arriving directly from the Monaco GP to prepare and run the car.
“We are delighted to be involved in the inaugural Sonoma Speed Festival,” said Matt Deane, chief mechanic and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport head of heritage. “We look forward to meeting and spending time with both existing and new American Formula 1 fans, and to running on track in California for the first time with the Mercedes-Benz W07 Hybrid.”
The driver of Hamilton’s car at Sonoma has not yet announced. Whoever it ends up being will be accessible: The Festival, scheduled for May 31-June 2, will feature a fan-friendly paddock, with viewing access to the W07 and the opportunity to interact with team members.
The Sonoma Speed Festival event owner Jeff O’Neill looks forward to the team’s headlining the first-year event: “To have Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport running at our event is far beyond just ‘terrific’. It will be a [demonstration-run first] in the U.S., and promises to be a memorably historic moment.”
