NASCAR’s ‘week after Daytona’ in Atlanta brought a 3.10 rating and average of 5.1m viewers for the Monster Energy Cup Series race Sunday afternoon on FOX, down from a 3.27/5.6m in 2018.
The Xfinity Series race in Atlanta was also down, scoring a 0.68 rating and averaging 1.1m viewers on FS1. Last year, this race had a 0.76/1.2m.
Interestingly, the Gander Outdoors Truck Series, which was alone among NASCAR’s three national series in posting a year-on-year gain at Daytona, again bucked the trend of the other two series in Atlanta. Saturday afternoon’s race — which followed the Xfinity Series on FS1 — scored a 0.61/956,000 viewers, up from a 0.60/931K in 2018.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series was in Phoenix last weekend, and also turned up an unusual ratings result as Saturday’s “Nitro Live” telecast from qualifying outperformed Sunday’s nights delayed telecast of final eliminations, albeit not by much. The Saturday show registered a 0.32/500,000 and Sunday’s, which aired an hour earlier at 6 p.m. ET, a 0.30/472K. Maybe the NASCAR lead-in on Saturday helped?
The Monster Energy Supercross series on NBCSN from Detroit on Saturday night scored a 0.18/329K.
