Project 1 commits to 2019/20 WEC
Team Project 1, which currently leads the FIA WEC GTE Am title race in its debut season, is set to remain in the championship for a second campaign in 2019/20, a team spokesperson has confirmed to RACER.
The team will continue racing in the GTE ranks of the WEC with Porsche and its 911 RSR platform. It is set to acquire a second 911 RSR for the program, as it recently revealed that it will also be racing in the European Le Mans Series' GTE class this year, which has grown to nine cars for the season.
The German outfit, which has a long history of success in Porsche one-make series, made its WEC debut at the start of the ‘Super Season’ and already has a GTE Am class win to its name, which came back in October at Fuji.
A Project 1 spokesperson told DailySportsCar.com that it plans to firm up its Porsche one-make plans for 2019 very soon, too.
The announcement means that five cars are now confirmed for the 2019/20 season, as Toyota Gazoo Racing, Cetilar Racing and United Autosports have also committed to racing in the WEC beyond the 2019 running of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
