On-board 3D ‘ball’ camera system capturing COTA footage
A number of NTT IndyCar Series teams are using Spring Training at Circuit of The Americas to capture special footage for use throughout the season.
The most unique example goes to the NTT-sponsored No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda piloted by rookie Felix Rosenqvist. After receiving a special dispensation from IndyCar, the Swede’s team outfitted the Dallara DW12 chassis with a mounting system to carry a 3D ‘ball’ camera system that utilizes an array of GoPro Heros.

At the series’ direction, Rosenqvist was allowed to used the opening laps of Tuesday’s two-hour practice session to run with the ball atop his car, and with an HD visor camera fitted to his helmet to add a secondary perspective. Removal of the visor camera and the 3D ball would be required once filming was complete.
It’s believed the footage will be used as part of a wide-reaching advertising campaign by NTT to promote its involvement in IndyCar.
