Road to Indy veteran Lucas Kohl will join Belardi Auto Racing’s Indy Lights program in the second of the team’s three cars in 2019.
The 20-year-old Brazilian spent three seasons in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, first with John Cummiskey Racing in 2016 and two with Pabst Racing. In 2018 Kohl finished with 11 top-10 finishes, four podium finishes and a highest finishing position of second at Mid-Ohio.
“I know that as a rookie it is going to be challenging, but with the experience that Belardi Auto Racing has I feel that they can help me to learn as much as possible as fast as possible,” Kohl said.
In September, Kohl was eighth fastest in a Belardi car at the eighth Annual Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy Open Test.
“We are very excited that Lucas has joined Belardi Auto Racing,” said team owner Brian Belardi. “He is a very bright young man and has a great future in racing. The team and I are very pleased to have Lucas and can’t wait to see him shine this year.”
The 2019 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season begins on the streets of St. Petersburg Florida, with practice beginning on March 8.
