PR1 Mathiasen nears full-time LMP2 return
California’s PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports is close to confirming its participation in the complete LMP2 calendar with the same ORECA 07-Gibson the team introduced late in the 2018 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship calendar.
“We believe in this class and have been pulling a lot of late nights and early morning starts to make it happen,” co-owner Bobby Oergel told RACER. “I’m hoping sometime next week we’ll be able to confirm our plans, and right now, everything we’re doing at the shop involves getting ready for the Roar [Before the 24] test in a few weeks, and then going back to get started on the racing season.”
PR1 Mathiasen could be one of two -- or possibly three -- entrants to vie for the full LMP2 championship. In another note of interest, Oergel and fellow co-owner Ray Mathiasen are not expected to continue with 2018 partner AFS Racing, which brought drivers Sebastian Saavedra and Gustavo Yacaman to the program.
