Tom Blomqvist will swap seats with Alexander Sims to take up a place in BMW Team RLL’s line-up for next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The 25-year-old son of 1984 World Rally champion Stig will take Sims’s full-time spot in the BMW M8 GTE, while Sims is moving in the other direction to replace Blomqvist as a member of BMW i Andretti Autosport in Formula E.
The move makes permanent a relationship that began last year when Blomqvist joined Jesse Krohn and John Edwards as third driver at Watkins Glen, although next year he will share the No.24 with Connor de Phillippi. Krohn and Edwards remain paired in the sister car.
Blomqvist and de Philippi will be joined by DTM campaigner Philipp Eng and IndyCar rookie Colton Herta for the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, while the long-expected confirmation of Alex Zanardi’s spot in the team places him be alongside Krohn, Edwards and 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert.
