Almirola leads second Texas practice

Aric Almirola’s lap of 193.854mph was the fastest in the first of two Saturday practice sessions at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Stewart-Haas Racing driver also continued to show the strength of the Fords. Almirola was the fastest of six Ford drivers in the top 10.

Second fastest was Kyle Busch at 193.805mph. Then came Clint Bowyer at 193.771mph and Brad Keselowski at 193.555mph. Denny Hamlin was fifth fastest at 194.403mph.

At sixth fastest on the speed chart was Kurt Busch at 193.313mph. Busch ran the most laps in the 55-minute session, 47.

Completing the top 10 were Kyle Larson at 193.299mph, Kevin Harvick at 193.285mph, Joey Logano at 193.161mph, and Martin Truex Jr. at 193.154mph.

Slowest of the playoff drivers in practice was Chase Elliott, who was also the only playoff driver outside the top 10. Elliott ran a lap of 192.226mph, which was good enough for 19th fastest.

There were no incidents in the session.
