The Techeetah team — now officially known as DS Techeetah as the team has entered into a partnership with French auto manufacturer DS Automobiles — has unveiled its DS E-TENSE FE19 car for Season 5 of the ABB Formula E Championship. Andre Lotterer will again partner reigning FE driver’s champion Jean-Eric Vergne on the team.
Vergne scored four wins for the team en route to winning the title this past season — just its second in the all-electric open-wheel series. “I’m incredibly happy to continue another year with the team,” said Vergne. “After winning the 2017/2018 drivers’ title and now with the addition of DS this season, we are even stronger and it should be a great year.”
The second-generation Formula E car features a top speed of 280 km/h (174mph) and, with the ability to travel double the distance of its predecessor, the Gen2 will eliminate the need for a mid-race car swap that has been an element of the series’ first four seasons.
“It is a very exciting time for the championship with the Gen2 car entering the all-electric street racing championship and we can expect is a new level of competition and excitement,” Vergne added.
Lotterer said, ”We have a really strong team and I feel we can achieve great things together. With my previous experience, I know how important it is to have everyone under the same roof when you work towards the same goal, so it’s a great asset for us coming into the season ahead.”
Japanese Super Formula driver James Rossiter has been retained as the team’s development drivers, alongside European F3 driver Guanyu Zhou.
The 2018-19 ABB Formula E Championship opens in Ad Diriyah, Saudia Arabia, on December 15.
