Las Vegas polesitter Erik Jones led the final Monster Energy Cup Series practice for the playoff-opening South Point 400, running a lap of 181.251 mph in the 50-minute afternoon session.
Ryan Blaney finished second for the second straight practice, driving the No. 12 Team Penske Ford to a best of 181.238mph. Playoff contenders Alex Bowman (181.202mph) and Brad Keselowski (181.099mph) were third and fourth, with Ryan Newman — who led the day’s first practice — rounding out the top five.
Playoff drivers Kyle Busch (sixth), Kyle Larson (eighth) and Chase Elliott (ninth) finished in the top 10. Daniel Suarez was seventh quickest and Jamie McMurray was 10th.
Playoff drivers filled slots 12 through 20: Aric Almirola (12th), Kevin Harvick (13th), Martin Truex Jr. (14th), Joey Logano (15th), Austin Dillon (17th), Clint Bowyer (18th), Denny Hamlin (19th) and Kurt Busch (20th).
Seven-time series champion Jimmie Johnson was 24th and slowest among the 16 playoff drivers.
