Acura goes 1-2 in Monterey FP2

Acura Team Penske took control of the second practice session at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as Dane Cameron led teammate Helio Castroneves to an ARX-05 1-2. California’s Cameron (1m16.865s) was marginally faster than Castroneves (+0.115s) at his home track. Action Express Racing’s Filipe Albuquerque made it an all-DPi top three with his Cadillac (+0.383s) as teams were treated to perfect seaside conditions.

CORE autosport’s Colin Braun, whose team won the last two IMSA rounds with its spec ORECA 07-Gibson LMP2 car, was fourth (+0.419s) while dealing with a 22-pound weight increase the series applied to all P2s.

In GT Le Mans, a repeat of the first session was found as Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dirk Muller led the factory entries in his GT (1m23.265s) as teammate Ryan Briscoe (+0.162s) was close behind. Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen (+0.340s) was fastest among the non-Ford brigade.

Porsche’s 911 GT3 R jumped to the fore in GT Daytona as Jorg Bergmeister (1m25.148s) led in his Park Place Motorsports entry. Meyer Shank Racing’s Alvaro Parente (+0.123s) was second in his Acura NSX GT3, and Jeroen Bleekemolen (+0.360s) was third in his Mercedes-AMG GT3.

With lap times tightening, teams will have one more session to perfect their setups in the morning before qualifying arrives in the afternoon.
